Shelby fell in love with the Miss America organization when she competed in her first pageant, our very own Miss Greater Grand Rapids. At that time she was 21 and attending school at Michigan State University. Despite starting her competitive career later in the game than most, she continued to compete while attending Graduate school at the University of Michigan. After she graduated from the University of Michigan and her competition days were over, she was asked to become a local director for the Miss Washtenaw Outstanding Teen program. A short time later an opening became available to become the Director for the Miss Lighthouse Coast Scholarship Pageant. Shelby happily accepted that position, and was then asked to resurrect the Miss Greater Grand Rapids Organization! The skills she learned from competing have helped Shelby excel both personally and professionally and she enjoys sharing those skills with her titleholders. When Shelby is not busy with pageants or working as a Training and Communication Specialist at a pharmaceutical company she enjoys traveling to National Parks with her family and reading.
